The back bottom corner has been scuffed completely away leaving a small hole in the cloth. Apart from that the boards are only lightly worn. The leaves are tight and generally in very good condition, apart from some paper deterioration to the end papers. The pages are clean, with light staining to the end papers and more so the back where some dye from the red cloth has leached. Also some of the endmost pages show light staining from this, at the bottom corners. Light spotting to the text block fore and bottom edges. Measures 23.9 x 16.1 x 3.5cm. 399 pages.

Förderer wie Schüler von G.I. Gurdjieff (Miers). Vorliegendes Buch fasst seine Aufzeichnungen zusammen, die er in den 8 Jahren mit Gurdjieff, die er mit ihm verbrachte, verfasst hat. Pjotr Demjanowitsch Uspenski, andere Schreibweise P.D. Ouspensky; * 4. März 1878 in Moskau; 2. Oktober 1947 in Lyne Place, Surrey) war ein in Russland bekannter Mathematiker, Schriftsteller, Journalist und Schüler von Georg Iwanowitsch Gurdjieff. Uspenski interessierte sich früh für Literatur. Im Jahre 1905 veröffentlichte er seinen ersten Roman Das seltsame Leben des Iwan Osokin. Kurze Zeit später begann er sich für die im damaligen Russland verbotene theosophische Literatur zu interessieren. In der Folge beschäftigte er sich mit der Frage, wie eine Synthese zwischen Wissenschaft, Religion und Mystik herbeizuführen sei. Darauf folgten ausgedehnte Reisen in den Orient und nach Ägypten. Zurück in Petersburg, widmete er sich dem Studium des Yoga, der Magie und des Okkultismus. 1920 zog Uspenski nach Konstantinopel. Das mehr formal-mathematisch ausgerichtete Denken Uspenskis führte schließlich zu Spannungen zwischen ihm und seinem Lehrer Gurdjieff. Der endgültige Bruch kam 1924. Uspenski löste seine Verbindung zu Gurdjieff und ging nach England. Er blieb aber dessen Lehren treu und arbeitete in London mit seiner eigenen Schülergruppe daran, die hauptsächlich in den Jahren 1915 bis 1918 von Gurdjieff dargestellten Lehren zu verstehen und fehlende Bereiche zu ergänzen.
