Condition: Wie neu. Steidl, Gottingen. 2016. First edition, first printing (there was a second printing same year). Signed by Chris Killip! New, mint, unread; only opened once for signature. Wonderful enlarged version of the famous photobook classic from 1988: Martin Parr, The Photobook vol 2, page 299. 802 photo books from the M. + M. Auer collection, page 675. Hardcover with dustjacket. 364 x 288 mm. 110 pages. Photographs in tritone printing. Text in English. Scarce first printing! Perfect condition! Signed by the artist! Collector`s copy! "The photographs that Chris Killip made in Northern England between 1973 and 1985 were first published by Secker & Warburg in the book In Flagrante in 1988. The new oversized Steidl edition is a radically updated presentation, showing a single image on the right side of each double-page spread. In Flagrante Two is strident in its belief in the primacy of the photograph, embracing ambiguities and contradictions in an unadorned narrative sequence devoid of text." "In Flagrante is a dark, pessimistic journey, perhaps even a secret odyssey, where rigorous documentary is suffused with a contemplative inwardness, a rare quality in modern photography." A first edition, first printing published by Secker and Warburg in 1988. Large 4to. (12 x 10 inches). Publisher's black cloth, title stamped in blind - a nice, clean copy. Pictorial dust wrapper is not price-clipped (£20.00). A very good copy in a like dust wrapper. Uncommon in hardback. The book is a collection of black and white photographs that document the decline of industry and the economic hardships faced by working-class communities in the north of England during the 1970s and 1980s. The title, "In Flagrante," suggests a sense of capturing these communities and individuals in the midst of their struggles. The photographs in the book provide a raw and poignant depiction of the social and economic changes that took place in this region, particularly in areas heavily reliant on industries like coal mining and steel production. Killip's images reveal the impact of de-industrialisation, unemployment, and social disintegration on the people and landscapes of these communities. "In Flagrante" is considered a significant documentary work that highlights the human stories behind the economic decline of the time.
