Five short story collections by Herman Cyril McNeile (1888-1937), originally written for the Daily Mail under the pseudonym of "Sapper". As serving officers in the British Army were not permitted to publish works under their own names, he was given the name "Sapper" by Lord Northcliffe, owner of the Daily Mail.McNeile was one of the most successful British popular authors of theinter-war period.
