Five short story collections by Herman Cyril McNeile (1888-1937), originally written for the Daily Mail under the pseudonym of "Sapper". As serving officers in the British Army were not permitted to publish works under their own names, he was given the name "Sapper" by Lord Northcliffe, owner of the Daily Mail.McNeile was one of the most successful British popular authors of theinter-war period. He drew upon his experiences in the trenches during the First World War.The books in this set are first editions, including a first edition copy of his first published work in book form, Sergeant Michael Cassidy, R.E. Pages are bright and clean except for offsetting and spotting to the end papers. A little age toning to the pages of 'The Human Touch'.
