Condition: Acceptable. Most items will be dispatched the same or the next working day. A readable copy. All pages and the cover are intact (dust cover may be missing). Pages can include considerable notes--in pen or highlighter--but notes cannot obscure the text. A good condition book. Undated but circa early 1900s from the annotation on the front free endpaper dated 1907. The largest issue with this copy is the heavy wear to the board and spine edges, but the binding around the boards remains firm. The internal contents remain tightly bound and the majority of the contents are in impressively clear and bright condition for the age of the book. A lovely reading copy.

Hoppus was an early English surveyor who developed many techniques and skills for more accurate estimating of quantities required. His proposed unit "the Hoppus Cubic Foot" for estimating how much raw timber would be required for a specific volume of finished timber after processing and wastage, and was used in forestry until metrication (it was roughly 21% larger than a 'normal' cubic foot. There appear to be two John Smith versions, one from 1848 and one from 1861, each with identical pagination(WorldCat). There is no indication that this is a second impression or edition, so it assumed that it is the earlier version.
