Samuel Jenkins Johnson was born in 1845 and from the age of nine had a particular interest in astronomy. He first published "Eclipses Past and Future" in 1874 and in 1896 published "Historical and Future Eclipses" providing further information and research on his previous work. Chapters include: "Early Chinese Eclipses"; "Curiosities in Lunar Eclipses, Bright and Black total Eclipses .". Illustrated with 12 pages of diagrams showing future eclipses from 1902 to 2491 with a detailed list of dates and times with type of eclipse. Johnson was elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in March 1872. He died in 1905.
