Paperback. 223p., good first printing of the abridged mass-market paperback edition in pictorial wraps. *Rideout novel. *Hanna 2079. 278. "Steve was made for football . . . Melissa was made for love." "He loved another man's woman." Lampell began his career as a singer and songwriter forming the folk troupe The Almanac Singers which included Pete Seeger, Lee Hayes & Woody Guthrie. They were members of the Popular Front which included the CPUSA. He refused to testify before HUAC and was blacklisted but continued to write screenplays under a pseudonym.

After an injury during a crucial game, a football star discovers that he is a pawn in a power struggle, and the woman to whom he has turned for refuge is trapped by a man "whose strange hold upon her was nurtured in the fury and violence of a monstrous obsession." Originally published in hardcover, in 1949, by Julian Messner, this edition "has been slightly abridged for your greater reading pleasure," which makes a fella wonder about all those tedious extra words that mighta been in the original edition. Spine a bit cocked/rolled, mild edgewear, ink initial on title page, light internal soil, some mustiness, crease to bottom left corner of back cover. Size: 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Book.
