Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Illustrated by Bugbee, H. D. (illustrator). Reddish brown cloth with gilt lettering on front board; fore edge is deckled. Boards have light wear to edges and gilt lettering is somewhat faded; previous owner's name rubber stamped on front endpaper. This publication is dedicated to preserving the tradition of the western cattle brand. The book was beautifully illustrated by H. D. Bugbee, and contains duotone facsimiles of original brand books. It was designed and printed by Carl Hertzog. Adams Herd 962. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 35 pp.

An interesting read regarding the history and origin of cattle brands. This book comes from the personal library of author/ historian Don Ornduff a close friend of the author's. Herd #962. Original cloth with dust wrapper. As new, except that the dust wrapper has a very light stain at bottom and a short tear at the top. 36 pp. Illustrated by H. D. Bugbee. [1-4], 5-35 pages. Fore-edge untrimmed. Dallas Morning News writer Paul Crume wrote of Haley's work: "The Heraldry of the Range doesn't properly belong to the body of his [Haley] work. It is a bookmaker's item, really, done in sepia and black by the incomparable Carl Hertzog of El Paso, and the growing number of collectors who admire Hertzog's work will probably seek it out." This attractive and avidly sought work gives a brief overview of the use and development of brands and branding in the West. Many ranchers, ranches, and brands are discussed: Charles Goodnight, the JA Ranch, the XIT, the Bell Ranch, the Matador Land & Cattle Co., the 101 Brand, and the JJ Brand. Fine tight copy in a bright dust jacket with 1" closed tear at top edge of front jacket ending in a small scrape along with a tiny bit of wear to head of spine.
