The recipient of this copy, Tom McGlathery, worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Division after graduating from the University of Texas. He became the Regional Parks Director for the Texas Hill Country in 1972, which oversaw the LBJ Ranch and Historic Site. McGlathery was responsible for 16 state parks and remained in the position for 25 years, until his retirement in 1997. Signed.

Johnson / May 28, 1968." An exceptional association copy. Secretary of State Cyrus Vance (1917-2002) served as the Deputy Secretary of Defense under President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1964 to 1967. During this period, Vance played a key role in overseeing the U.S. military's involvement in the Vietnam War, though he privately expressed reservations, and eventually resigned from his post. Vance was also the primary negotiator during the Panama Canal Zone disputes and helped de-escalate the Cyprus crisis in 1967. This foreign diplomatic experience led to his nomination as President Carter's Secretary of State in 1977. Signed.

This copy is INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the President to Jean and Bob Benjamin on the page before the title page bearing the printed quote beginning "Sometimes I have been called a seeker of 'consensus." Laid in is a small envelope with the imprint "The White House" inside of which is a calling card with the imprint "The President." Robert Benjamin and his partner Arthur Krim acquired United Artists from then-owners Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford in 1955. During the Kennedy administration he served as Chairman of the United States Committee for the United Nations. Later he served on the Brandeis University Board of Trustees. In 1979, Robert Benjamin won the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian award posthumously. His wife Jean accepted the award on his behalf. Near Fine in a Fine dustwrapper.
