Hardcover. Condition: Good. 25th edition. Large octavo, 1614 pages. This copy belonged to the Dowager Lady Noble who died 25 May. 1962 aged 90. Lady Noble was the widow of Sir saxton Noble, 3rd Bt. (1863 - 1942), and the granddaughter of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, her father Arthur James having married Brunel's daughter, Florence. Her bookplate is on the front free endpaper. The spine is damaged (please see photographs), fore-edges foxed and pages browned with age. It is a very heavy book and overseas shipping will be more than the default shipping price quoted on ABE. In good black textured black cloth boards, blind stamped ruled edges on front and back, beige leather title field on spine with gilt titles. The covers are firm and fairly clean, corners and spine ends slightly frayed, small split on front side of spine edge. Clean black end papers, small tear from tail end of front gutter. Tanned cut edges. The text block is printed in two columns. The pages are fairly clean and tightly bound; some sporadic foxing but apart from prelims and Addenda not tanned. The Table at front has two creased pages and small tear on fore edge. Some pencil names on half title page. For an old, thick book, the condition is very good. Heavy.
