First printing authentically signed copies of the US edition are hard to come by and rarer than first printing copies of the US edition of Prisoner of Azkaban. In fine condition, this particular book has no flaws and is unread, tight and square with no toning or foxing to the text block and very fresh, white pages. No marks at all internally, no ownership name, it is an entirely clean copy. The corners are sharp and the spine tip and base are without any bruising which is extremely rare to find. The dust jacket is a first state jacket in pristine condition without the number 2 on the spine and is priced correctly at $17.95. It is not price clipped and the spine has no fading at all. It comes houses in a red clamshell box made purposely for this book, with the title and author's name printed in gold leaf to the spine. According to Bloomsbury, the paperback copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was published on May 28th 1999, however , contemporaneous press reports indicate that the book was actually published in January 1999, which is also the date suggested on the proof cover for the paperback edition of the book. This book was signed in blue ballpoint pen by J.K. Rowling to the dedication page. It was signed at Perth Railway Station on July 11th, 2000 three days following publication of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as part of her Hogwarts Express Book Tour.  In January 1999, J.K. Rowling made an appearance at Kings Cross Station shortly after the paperback was published to promote the book, however most copies were inscribed, therefore a flat signed copy, without an inscription is exceptionally rare. Included with the book is a hand written note from the original owner Kirsty who describes how she met J.K. Rowling aboard the Hogwarts train when she was just 10 years old. This is a lovely near fine copy, unread, with what appears to be a square and still tight binding. The spine has some mild creasing and the corners have some minor shelf wear however there are no major creases at all to the front or back cover. The page edges are mildly toned and there is fading to the spine but overall a lovely and very collectable copy. Internally, there are no ownership inscriptions or writing of any kind with no dog eared pages, folds or creases to any of the pages. Rowling making an appearance at King's Cross Station, London, to promote the release of the book. A small number of signed copies of the book were available for purchase through Edinburgh bookstores, and Rowling did sign copies during a visit to London one event being in Wimbledon, where she signed copies of the book in black ballpoint pen. Comes in a custom-made half-leather clamshell box. Included is a Letter of Authenticity (LoA) from Adam Houston of The Harry Potter Specialist, the world's sole expert on J.K. Rowling's signature, as well as an interesting collector's card. Authentic signed copies of this first paperback edition are scarce to find in commerce, and copies in pristine unread condition such as this one, with bright colors, a sharp spine and corner tips, and bright pages, are extremely hard to find. At the owner's request, she signed a few copies, one of which was sold that same day to an American tourist, who kept the book for the last 25 years. With a print run of ONLY 200 COPIES (See J.K. Rowling A Bibliography, Phillip W. Errington, Bloomsbury 2017, p. 68) the second impression of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a very scarce book. While signed first impressions of this title are regularly offered, a signed copy of a second printing hardly ever surfases the market. A near fine copy with minor bumped spine ends and corner tips. Apart from the experts at the auction house we have also analysed the signature and inscription. Handwriting and signature matches Rowling's 1998-1999 style of signing her books. In the years 1997-1999 Rowling was a far lesser know writer than from the year 2000 onwards when Pottarmania went off the charts. For the first three books she toured the UK regularly and visted a few schools and bookshops to do signings. This is the second book in the seminal Harry Potter series that took the world by storm causing Pottermania everywhere. 'Chamber of Secrets' won the British Children Book of the Year Award in 1998 following Rowling's success with 'Philosopher's Stone' in 1997. Adapted as a blockbuster film in 2002.
