There were said to be three states but third is now largely accepted to be the first Australian edition. This copy has the requisite dropped text on page 7 and Joanne Rowling listed on the copyright page and the complete number line 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1. The book and dust jacket presented here are in pristine condition. The book is unread, the binding is tight, the boards are square with sharp corners and the pages are a bright white, clean and free from any toning, creases, marks, ownership inscriptions or writing of any kind. There is no colour fading at all to the book or dust jacket which is incredibly rare. The dust jacket is unclipped and protected in a removable mylar cover. The book comes housed in a dark green quarter leather clamshell box. There are reported to be 5000 first printing copies across both states, however the exact split is not known. It is only known that there are far less first state copies that come to market. This is an extremely scarce book which is getting harder and harder to find in this incredible condition. This copy comes with a loose Bloomsbury bookplate signed by J.K. Rowling, not yet stuck down into the book, but fully authenticated as a genuine signature by Adam Houston, The Harry Potter Specialist. As well as the clamshell box and signed bookplate, this book also comes with a full authenticity package that includes a Letter of Authenticity and Collector Card. Signed by Author(s).

Signed copies of Prisoner of Azkaban are very scarce in any printing, with the popularity of Harry Potter, Jo had stopped doing as many signing events as she had done previously and instead Bloomsbury started sending out signed bookplates to book stores to help promote the book. This is a 2000 variation of Rowling's signature and was signed at Perth Railway Station on July 11, 2000, three days following the publication of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as apart of her Hogwarts Express Book Tour. The book presented here are in beautiful condition the pages are bright and clean with no obvious toning to the page edges, internally no inscriptions or marks of any kind. The book is unread, the boards are square with sharp corners with no foxing of any kind. Aside from some minor bumping to the base of the spine, this is is a fine copy. The dust jacket itself is in perfect condition with no creasing or fading of any kind. Highly sought after First State of the First Edition, First Printing of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in a near pristine condition in an excellent first state dust jacket. Number line of 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1, Joanne Rowling listed on the copyright page, famous dropped text error on page 7. In the uncorrected proof of the book sent to reviewers, the word 'burnt' on page 7 was misspelled as 'burned'. While correcting, the "Enter" key was accidentally pressed, causing the rest of the sentence to move to the next line. Shortly after this was discovered, the print run was stopped and this printing error was corrected. At the same time, the name on the copyright page was changed from 'Joanne Rowling' to 'J.K. Rowling'. According to Bloomsbury approximately 2.500 First State copies with a dropped text error were printed [see Errington, p 187]. Most of these copies have been included in collections over the past twenty years. This unread copy is in a marvelous condition, almost like new. The boards have vibrant colours, sharp spine ends, sharp corners and cornertips without any wear or traces of use. The binding is very tight, even still a bit crispy when opening. The pages are bright, with hardly the usual toning and without inscriptions, names, dog-ears or other traces of use. The first state dust jacket is inside and outside also in a pristine condition without any fading, discoloration or wear, now protected by a removable Brodart archival cover. One of the most beautiful copies we have ever seen of this very rare and highly collectable book. Comes in a custom-made half-leather clamshell box.
