This is an Original, complete issue of 16 pages dated May 4, 1867 -- Vol. 11, No. 540 -- Illustrated with wood cut engravings -- Small repaired tear on pages 277 & 285, otherwise nice condition -- The Front Cover has four portrait engravings titled "Portraits Of American Artists", which includes Daniel Huntington, P.N.A., Eastman Johnson, N. A., Charles Elliott, N. A., and F. O. C. Darley, N. A. -- Page 276 has two large engravings, one titled "Intelligence-Office In New York", the other "Scene In A Sugar Bush, Otsego County, New York" -- Page 277 has an article titled "Our Russian Possessions", accompanied by three engravings titled as follows: "Our Russian Possessions--New Archangel, The Principal Town Of Russian America", "Our Russian Possessions--Mount Saint Elias, Russian America", and the third a map of North America. This was the PURCHASE OF ALASKA from Russia for $7.2 million. -- Page 280 has a full page engraving titled "For The Last Time" (a sorrowful goodbye) -- Page 281 has a full page engraving titled "The First Of May--The Discomforts Of Moving", accompanied by a poem on page 282 by Augustus Comstock -- Page 284 has three engravings titled as follows: "The Contraband", "The Recruit", and "The Veteran" -- Page 285 has two engravings, one titled "Edward John Eyre, Late Governor Of Jamaica, West Indies", the other "Paris Fashions For April" -- This issue contains portions of the following serials: "Playing For High Stakes" by Miss Annie Thomas, Chapter XII, "Mabel's Progress", Chapter I, and "Birds Of Prey", Chapter III -- Many articles related to these engravings and other events occurring at the time, as well as very interesting advertising -- We store and ship each Harper's Weekly issue in a large zip lock plastic sleeve with a board insert for stiffness.
