The story of this inscription is told in a typed letter and a hand-written note to A. Hugh Fisher, author, poet and painter. A poem of his is quoted in the text of 'Memories of Books and Places' and this small correspondence shows how Hammerton was influenced by it and how he came to give this copy to Fisher.
