Paperback. Condition: Used; Good. Far from the Madding Crowd concerns the love affairs of Bathsheba Everdene, her wooing by Gabriel Oak, her marriage to Sergeant Troy, and her disasterous affair with Farmer Boldwood. To Hardy, love was always the most important human quality, and this is one of his greatest love stories. Gabriel tries to look for work in the area that he thinks Bathsheba has moved to. Unable to find any, he sings for his supper - He drew out his flute and began to play ?Jockey to the Fair? in the style of a man who had never known a moment?s sorrow. Oak could pipe with Arcadian sweetness, and the sound of the well-known notes cheered his own heart as well as those of the loungers. He played on with spirit, and in half an hour had earned in pence what was a small fortune to a destitute man. - even in Wessex people can make extra money if they need it! Still relatable to this very day! Add this stylish 1968 version to your collection!
