Carl Ernst Bock (1808 - 1874) lehrte von 1839 an als Professor für Pathologische Anatomie an der Medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Leipzig. Er trat durch anatomische Hand- und Lehrbücher sowie durch populärwissenschaftliche Veröffentlichungen wie insbesondere sein zweibändiges "Buch vom gesunden und kranken Menschen" (Leipzig 1855) hervor. Der Atlas wurde buchbinderisch instandgesetzt. Dabei wurden die Lagen in Handfadenheftung nachgezogen und die Vorsätze altdeutsch erneuert.
