First UK edition. 77pp. and 6 full-page black and white illustrations by Robin Jacques. Inspired by a minor incident in history, this is a story for children that re-creates the brilliance and shadow of ancient Greece. It tells of Dion, son of Mermonax, who is saved from the destruction of Corinth by the Romans and learns to give himself to creation rather than destruction. This is an ex-library copy but is otherwise in very good condition with few library marks. It is bound in the original blue boards with gold titling on the spine. The contents are tight and clean with traces of removed and partially removed labels on the front endpapers. There is a tape stain running down the inside fore edge of the front board and others down the rear endpapers. The only other library stamp appears to be on the back of the last page of text. The unclipped dustwrapper is very good with light bumping to the spine ends and a tape stain running down the edge of the rear flap.
