Hinton Ampner House is a stately home with gardens within the civil parish of Bramdean and Hinton Ampner, near Alresford, Hampshire, England. It is a Grade II listed building. The garden was created by the author of this book Ralph Stawell Dutton (1898 - 1985), the 8th and last Baron Sherborne, starting in 1930, making this a modern 20th-century garden. The property is now more noted for its garden than the house. Previously, the parkland came directly up to the house, which was designed to be a hunting lodge. An earlier Tudor house stood close to the current site, before the current house was built. Originally published in 1968 this revised edition has the benefit of a long introduction by Lydia Greeves. Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 128 pages, several illustrations, coloured frontis. Original green cloth, gilt lettered. With dustwrapper. Head & foot of spine a little chipped. Dustwrapper protected with a removable clear wrapper. The Batsford books of the 1930s-1950s occupy a sweet spot between reference work and decorative object. Their appeal now lies as much in the vibrant dustwrappers - modernist in spirit, pastoral in subject - as in the texts themselves. Together the book and wrapper form a coherent, collectible aesthetic: bright, optimistic, and unmistakably of their period, yet still wonderfully contemporary. Size: 15 x 23 cms. Category: Batsford Books; This item may require more postage than the rates shown for delivery outside the UK. If extra postage is required we will contact you before processing your order and you will be given the details and option to decline the extra cost.
