CONDITION. The cover has faded into a pale pink, inside here is the .Ex libris plate of C.H.L.Bledisloe on loose blank endpaper on which does have an old vertical crease. Inside is very clean, however a child with management issues has stabbed pages with a compass causing 1-3 small holes in the lower margin of the book going through about a third of the pages. Otherwise a very nice copy. Bookplate of Christopher Bathurst, 3rd Viscount Bledisloe (1934-2009), Barrister and politician. The bookplate is designed by his son Rupert Bathhurst. Size 26.5 x 20 cms (10.75 x 8 inches).

The extremities are lightly soiled and rubbed, and the backstrip is sunned (title still very bold). The cloth at the foot of the spine is slightly frayed. There are multiple small, light moisture stains on the top edge of the text block. The front hinge is a little shaky, the free endsheets are darkened, and the rear pastedown is lightly foxed. A handful of the pages have small stains. With numerous illustrations, including 4 full-page color plates, by the Belgian Symbolist artist, Jean de Bosschère. Signed by the illustrator on the title page.
