Four upper-class Booteas, Tibetan-speaking inhabitants of Nepal. British-born Samuel Bourne (1834-1912) photographed the landscape and architecture of India and the Himalayan region from 1863-1870. "[R]ecognized as an important landscape photographer, Bourne entered a partnership with Charles Shepherd" and "became a leading supplier of Indian views" (Pare, PHOTOGRAPHY AND ARCHITECTURE, p. 251).
