Hardcover. Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. Original vintage 1960 First edition later state of Dr. Seuss's masterpiece "Green Eggs And Ham" The good news: It is an early state of the first edition. The year 1960 appears at the bottom of the title page and states, "Published in New York by Beginner Books, Inc., and simultaneously in Toronto, Canada by Random House of Canada, Limited. Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 60-13493 and there is no ISBN. Measures 6 3/4 X 9 3/8 in original orange binding. The bad news: Five pages have neat period crayon drawings by a young lady back in the day. Maybe not so bad because she did a good job. But the book is missing some small chunks on the spine and rear gutter and there is some age staining and patina. Overall a nice piece of childrens literature history that shows it age proudly. Priced accordingly.

Dr. Seuss (illustrator). Title: Green Eggs and Ham Author: Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel) Publisher: Beginner Books / Random House, New York Publication Date: 1960 (First Edition, Early Printing) Binding: Original orange glazed pictorial boards Dust Jacket: Original first-edition dust jacket (price-intact, early state) Condition: Very Good book in Good+ dust jacket (details below) Size: 8vo (approx. 9" x 6.5") Pages: 62 pp., fully illustrated in color ISBN/Points: No ISBN (pre-ISBN era); meets key early identification points including "195/195" price code on inner front flap, B-16 spine code on book and jacket, 1960 copyright with "Distributed by Random House" wording. One of the most iconic and beloved Dr. Seuss titles, famously written under a 50-word limitation as part of a wager with Bennett Cerf. This is a genuine 1960 first edition (the book is first printing/first edition), featuring an early dust jacket state that collectors prize for its transitional and minimalistic design elements. Key Edition & State Details (per Younger & Hirsch and dealer consensus): Inner front flap with original "195/195" price code ($1.95) - scarce on surviving examples. B-16 spine code on both book and jacket (confirms early Beginner Books series placement). Dust jacket front panel has "50 WORD VOCABULARY" printed directly in a boxed area (second-state jacket after the ultra-rare applied-sticker variant). Book boards lack the "50 WORD VOCABULARY" blurb and the "I CAN READ IT ALL BY MYSELF" Cat-in-the-Hat seal/logo - an early production feature before these marketing elements were added to boards. Inner flaps feature the original promotional text emphasizing the book as the "first of a great new series for Beginning Beginner Readers," with only the initial companion titles listed (Put Me in the Zoo by Robert Lopshire and Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman). Rear panel has the classic early "If you're learning to read" progression ad with a short, contemporaneous title list (no later books like Fox in Sox, indicating pre-1965 updates). Title page: "BEGINNER BOOKS, INC. / Distributed by Random House" (early distributed wording). Condition Notes: Book: Very Good - Clean, bright orange boards with light edge/shelf wear consistent with age. Tight binding, no ownership marks, writing, or crayon inside. Pages fresh and bright for the era. Dust Jacket: Good+, Attractive and complete with bright colors, but shows expected 65-year wear: chipping at spine ends and corners, minor edge rubbing, a few short, closed tears, and light soiling/toning to rear panel (no major loss, tape repairs, or restoration). Unclipped and unrestored. Overall: Presents very well for a 1960 survivor; jacket protected in removable archival mylar. The wear adds authentic vintage character without detracting from display appeal. This is not a later reprint, book club, or mass-market copy-it's an authentic early 1960 first edition with a desirable early-state dust jacket (short ad list, no board seal/logo, simple flaps). A wonderful addition to any Dr. Seuss or children's literature collection, and a timeless classic that still delights readers young and old.

Title: Green Eggs and Ham Author: Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel) Publisher: Beginner Books / Random House, New York Publication Date: 1960 (First Edition, Early Printing) Binding: Original orange glazed pictorial boards, illustrated endpapers Dust Jacket: Original first-edition-style pictorial dust jacket (price-intact) Condition: Very Good+ book in Very Good dust jacket (details below) Size: 8vo (approx. 9" x 6.5") Pages: 62 pp., fully illustrated in color ISBN/Points: No ISBN (pre-ISBN era); meets key early points including "195/195" price code on inner front flap, B-16 spine code on book and jacket, 1960 copyright with "Distributed by Random House" wording. A beloved Dr. Seuss classic and one of the most iconic Beginner Books titles-born from Bennett Cerf's famous wager that Seuss couldn't write a children's story using only 50 words. This copy is a genuine 1960 first edition (the book itself is first printing/first edition), featuring an early dust jacket variant with strong collectible appeal. Key Edition & State Details (per Younger & Hirsch and collector consensus): Inner front flap with original "195/195" price code (scarce on surviving examples). B-16 spine code on both book and jacket (confirms early Beginner Books series placement). "50 WORD VOCABULARY" printed directly on the front book boards (standard for 1960 copies). Dust jacket front panel lacks the "50 WORD VOCABULARY" blurb (no sticker or printed text)-a transitional/early jacket state before standardization. Rear panel with classic early-to-mid-1960s reading progression ad ("If you're learning to read."), listing titles up through Fox in Sox (indicating jacket updated circa 196-65 while paired with early book stock-common for high-demand titles). Title page: "Published in New York by Beginner Books, Inc., and simultaneously in Toronto." (early distributed wording). Condition Notes: Book: Very Good+ - Bright, clean orange boards with minimal edge/shelf wear. Tight binding, no ownership marks, crayon, or writing inside. Pages fresh and unmarked. Dust Jacket: Very Good ? Bright and attractive with light edge rubbing, minor chipping at spine ends/corners, a few short closed tears (no major loss or tape repairs). Light soiling to rear panel (typical for age). Unclipped and unrestored. Overall: Presents beautifully on the shelf; jacket protected in archival mylar (removable if preferred). This is not a later reprint or book club edition-it's an authentic early 1960 survivor with intact original jacket and premium early points (flap price, spine code). A fun, iconic piece of children's literature history that still delights readers of all ages. Perfect for Dr. Seuss collectors, Seussian completists, or as a special gift.
