Quarto, viii, 77 pages; G-; bound in dark blue cloth, gilt titling to cover, marbled text block; spine worn off; boards bowed, with significant wear; Spencer Cosby's copy, with his name engraved on the front cover. With a typed letter signed by C. O. Sherrill addressed to Spencer Cosby, dated July 25, 1925, on The Grant Memorial Commission letterhead.; shelved case 1. Spencer Cosby (1867-1962) was a U.S. Army officer. In March 1909 he was appointed in charge of public buildings and grounds for the District of Columbia, with the rank of colonel. He managed the design and construction of new White House executive offices and the Oval Office. In 1912 he supervised the planting of Japanese cherry trees at the United States Capitol.
