Hardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition Thus. No stated date but understood to be 1950. First edition thus. 185pp., colour frontispiece and 9 black and white illustrations. First published in 1944, this is the second of W.E. Johns's "Gimlet" books. Captain "Gimlet" King parachutes into France, and into a Naxi plot. This is a hard-to-find 'Youth Book Club' edition, and is bound in the original blue boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with a tough of fading rto the spine ends and top edge of the boards. The contents are tight and clean with foxing to the top and fore edges of the text block, and on some pages this has seeped a little way into the top and/or fore margin. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear with light soiling and foxing and the spine is browned. The corners and spine ends are lightly bumped and nicked and the spine ends and top front corner have been reinforced on the reverse with strips of document repair tape.
