Name stamp Weisser on title page. Weisser was one of the officers on board who landed on Easter Island. Bottom corner of map torn out without loss of text or other details, repaired with Japanese tissue paper. The rarest book on Easter Island. The officers of the Hyäne conducted the first archaeological dig on Easter Island and collected a number of artefacts as well as a brief list of vocabulary and three songs.

Berlin, Mittler 1883. 8vo. 54 S. mit 22 lithographischen Tafeln und 1 Karte. Flexibler Leinenband der Zeit (leicht berieben), St.a.u.verso Titel, Exlibris am Innendeckel. Gutes Exemplar. Der Band weist zahlreiche alte Bleistift-Marginalien ? offenbar von wissenschaftlicher Hand - auf (Handschrift Prof. Robert v. Heine-Geldern?). Bindung und Papierqualität gut. Es handelt sich bei diesem extrem seltenen Werk nicht um eine Buchpublikation im regulären Sinn, gedacht für einen grösseren Leserkreis, sondern um einen detaillierten Bericht an die preussische Admiralität. Geiseler hat hier eine ?Aufgabe? in Berichtsform erfüllt, die letztendlich auf den Wunsch des damaligen Doyen der deutschsprachigen Ethnologie, Prof. Adolf Bastian, zurückging. Insofern war auch die Auflage dieses Bändchens sehr klein und richtete sich eben nur an einen kleinen Kreis von Militärs, Handelsorganisationen und Wissenschaftler. Entsprechend selten heute.
