Embossed full leather bindings with 5 raised bands on spine. Giilt titles and decorations on front covers and spines. Gilt edges. Marbled endpapers. Remarkably well-preserved copies, with lightest rubbing only to leather bindings. Hinges strong. Tissue guards to each illustration. No sign of foxing or staining in either volume. All plates in beautiful condition.

Three-Quarter Leather. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Exceptionally rare two volume complete set in original red leather binding with all plates present and in exceptional nrFine state with original tissue guards. Tooled leather binding with 5 raised bands on each and gilt lettering and designs; heavy stock paper with gilt on all fore-edges; marbled page edges. Interiors are fresh and clean with no signs of foxing or staining; minimal light soiling at most. The exterior boards themselves have heavy wear with leather edges frayed and flaking; corner exposed; volume two has large staining marks to the covers with cloth removed from edges; both exteriors soiled; interior hinges weak; volume one has loose end pages. Overall bindings and spines present well on a book shelf; leather is generally scuffed but still fresh. No date given, c1880. First American edition. Joseph Mallord William Turner RA (1775 - 1851) was an English Romantic landscape painter, water-colourist, and printmaker. Turner is regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting. Although renowned for his oil paintings, Turner is also one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape painting. Red textured cloth with leather spines and corners, gilt titles and decorations to spine, gilt borders to main covers; all edges gilt. Large Folio volumes. The two volumes contain 80 Superb full page plates engraved from Turner's paintings by various engravers.Maoinly British Views but with some seascapes and some mythological scenes. Each engraving is printed on card, with a guard leaf, and is followed by a half page of text by Monkhouse. Only volume 3 has a title page, and it has yellow endpapers, whereas vol.2 has marbled endpapers. (the title page of vol.2 was perhaps not present, as it does not appear to have been lost). Good condition overall. The contents are very good, with clean pages with only occasional handling marks or light brown spots, except for the prelims of Vol 3 which have heavier foxing; the plates are well printed sharp and bright. The binding is sound though the covers fair only and worn - but generally clean, with a few small spots or marks; the leather is rubbed and scuffed, especially to the spines, which have tears to the edges; gilt reasonaably bright. Very heavy volumes may require extra postage. Pictures available.
