Carter was an Australian civilian working for the Department of Information in Malaya at the time of the Fall of Singapore. He attempted to escape, but was betrayed and (with an honorary commission to disguise the propaganda potential of his civilian radio occupation) was imprisoned with the 8th Division prisoners. This tells of his experiences organising entertainment for the fellow prisoners in a variety of camps including Changi.
