Based on lectures at the University of Berlin, these five volumes "cover the whole range of what is now known as classical physics. At the same time they constitute a bridge and an introduction to the later developments such as the quantum theory of radiation, in the creation of which Prof. Planck has played the pioneer part". Publisher's green boards with gilt lettering to the spine. Each Volume is in fine condition with no foxing, no fading and no oxidisation to the gilt lettering. Volume 3 has a neat former owner's name and date (1945) to the front paste-down. Volume 5 has an advertisement leaf to the rear for this set of books. First Edition Sets are uncommon especially in such outstanding condition. NB: Max Planck was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1918 and in 1929 received the Copley Medal of the Royal Society of which he had been elected a Foreign Member three years' previously.
