Hardcover. Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. This book is in indifferent condition. Covers stained and marked. Tear to spine. Boards scuffed and worn. Spine offset. Hinges cracked with webbing exposed and binding a little forced at intervals within the text block. Missing frontispiece (portrait of author). General light dust soiling and with a few marks but the text is generally quite reasonable. All named plates present along with the two maps, as called for. Extra plate of Eugenie and plan of the enceinte of Paris to reverse of later map. Robert Wilson was a young Scottish academic who died in Italy at the age of 22. This work was collated and edited by his father before being privately published. It is not a first-hand account: he wrote it, based on the articles and reports of the time, before he died in 1874.
