Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the early history of Fort Snelling, the first military post established in the upper Mississippi River valley during the 19th century. It begins by recounting the indigenous civilizations who occupied the land, followed by the arrival of European explorers and fur traders. The author traces the evolution of Fort Snelling from its initial establishment as a military outpost to its role as a major hub of economic and social activity in the region. This book explores the complex interactions between Native American tribes, European settlers, and the United States government as they competed for control of the land. Its detailed accounts of military campaigns, diplomatic negotiations, and frontier life provide valuable insights into the settlement of the American West and the complex relationships between cultures during this formative period. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
