This is an actual original drawing hand SIGNED by the artist Dave Muller; " this is not a print" but limited edition of 150 original copies (this is # 17); this is a acrylic paint on Archival Cotton Rag Paper, hand-deckled; paper size: 11 x 14 in.; hand-colored and initialed by a Team of 11 Volunteer Artists on May 15th 2004, this one was hand colored by Karen Atkinson. ABOUT THE PRINT: "In keeping with his interest of tweaking artworld presentation systems and surrendering authorship to collaborative projects, Dave decided to play with the structure of "the artists' print" for this year's Phantom Ball. Since a print is (as he put it), simply "an artists copying himself," Dave thought it would be fun to side-step mechanical reproduction and (instead) create 150 original black-line drawings of the same tree, over and over again. These trees were a dominant element in his installation at the Whitney Biennial, titled " . . . That Hollywood Adage: be nice to the people on the way up, because they're the same people on the way down." The black and white drawings were then hand-colored by a collaborative team of volunteer artists who were instructed to initial each piece with green ink after they applied color to it.
