Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First edition thus. Hardcover in light blue cloth lettered in black. 300 pp. + publisher's ads at rear. "Illustrated with Scenes from the Photoplay". A novelization of Pollock's stage play that opened on Broadway in October, 1922. This edition was issued at the time of the silent movie 1925 version (now lost). A solidly very good copy, no jacket. Pollock's play was an enormous hit, at one point being performed by six different theatrical companies around the United States. The plot revolves around a young clergyman who attempts to live his life as Christ would in the present day despite being confronted by an affluent congregation, labor strikes and poverty. It featured many dramatic incidents including the healing of a crippled girl through faith that reportedly moved thousands of viewers to tears.

Condition: Very good. - Quarto [approximately 11 inches high by 8-1/2 inches wide], printed in black on cream- colored paper with a portrait of the playwright on the title page. The corners are slightly creased. There is a short tear to the top edge of each page with a small area of light soiling near the bottom edge of the title page. Very good. Following the title page, the brochure includes a one-page bio of ChannIng; descriptions of two of his addresses, "The Fool and I" and "Personal Responsibility in the Theatre"; and "several letters out of several thousand" praising "The Fool"; written to Pollock by prominent individuals.Channing Pollock [1880-1946] was an American playwright, critic and writer of film scenarios. He began his career in 1896 as drama critic at The Washington Post and later worked at the Washington Times. He was the author of "The House Beautiful", "The Fool", "The Enemy" and many other successful Broadway productions. He also wrote film scenarios, including "The Evil Thereof" [1916], and a memoir "The Footlights, Fore and Aft" [1911].
