Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Some light rubbing to the board edges. A very good clean copy. The first-hand account of Jean Battens record-breaking aviation journeys in the 1930s, told with clarity, courage, and emotional honesty. The book recounts Batten's determination to become a world-class pilot, beginning with h…er early training in England and culminating in her historic solo flights across vast and often hostile landscapes. She describes her first failed attempts to reach Australia, including crash landings and mechanical failures, before finally succeeding in May 1934. That flight, from England to Darwin in a Gipsy Moth, took just under 15 days and made her the first woman to complete the journey solo.
