A very nice binding of the first edition, first impression of this title, with the initials AVD in gilt on the front board, full morocco with gilt tooling and interesting endpaper work, all edges gilt. All first edition points but without the adverts (removed when re-binding), David instead of Saul on page 56. xiii, blank, half title, blank, 1-215. Minor wear only, front joint slightly cracked but strong, internally pristine.

With David for Saul in line three of the stanza eleven (p56), and with the imprint Printed by T and A Constable, Printers to his Majesty, at the Edinburgh University Press on page 215, with the half title, title with the printers imprint to the reverse, no advertisements (removed when rebound), with signature marks A, B, C, D to pages 1, 17, 33, etc. (Rudyard Kipling, Bibliographical Catalogue by James McG Stewart p230). xiii, 215pp, 216 blank]. Approximately 7 ½ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles, 5 raised bands, gilt decoration to the compartments, gently worn top and tail, there are some small spots in some of the compartments, sun browned. Joints good condition rubbed and worn. Corners good condition very gently bumped and worn. Boards good condition bound by Bumpus Ltd. half leather/marbled boards, there are a couple of small nicks out of the leather in the bottom left hand corner of the rear board. Page edges good condition top edge slightly darkened, all marbled. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition intact. Paste downs good condition marbled. End papers good condition marbled, the book binders name is printed along the top edge on the reverse of the front end paper, free end papers lightly tanned.
