Hardcover (Original Cloth). Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. Vignette in green of Angler to front cover; illustrated endpapers depicting various sports in white on grey background with series title. The sport of fishing has assumed many forms and drawn millions of people to the waterside - people of widely differing tastes, beliefs and opportunities  to share in the thrill of anticipation, achievement, and that indefinable charm which is the secret quality of this all-absorbing pastime. To this almost indescribable "something", this elusive element which leads so many to spend their leisure hours beside rivers, lakes and canals, Mr. Michael Shephard gives some key through his own descriptive power and his acute enjoyment of things other than the use of line and rod - things which may be purely incidental to the sport, but which are surely an essential part of the true delight of angling. "The purpose of a fishing rod is to catch fish," he says, "but there is more to fishing than just that." And it is this other, unknown quantity which must be the common denominator throughout the entire range of the sport - a factor which can make the blankest, wettest and even the windiest of days "the greatest fun", to the bewilderment of the uninitiated. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 240 pages. Dust Jacket is fully intact, but has small chips and other signs of wear to top and bottom edges, corners etc. Dust Jacket un-clipped.
