Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Stated Second Printing. Author Adele Gutman Nathan describes the incredible feat of building an 1800-mile-long transcontinental railroad across the Western United States. Working toward the west from Omaha, Nebraska, the Union Pacific Railroad built bridges and tunnel…s, prepared the roadbed, and laid track. Starting in Sacramento, California, the Central Pacific Railroad did the same, only working east. The two met at Promontory, Utah in 1869, completing the transcontinental crossing. This work was written for a younger reader, especially those age 11 to age 14. With illustrations and maps in green tones by Edw. A. Wilson. Number 9 in publisher's Landmark Books series. --- In full blue-green cloth-covered boards with image of a locomotive to cover, cover and spine titling & decorations in red and green; red topstain. Dust jacket with color illustration of a mounted Indian riding next to a speeding locomotive to front panel. --- A well-preserved, tightly-bound, sound copy, though prior owner's signature to front paste-down. Unclipped dust jacket ($1.50) with sunning to spine, light chafing to edges and some age-toning, else intact and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; x, [2], 3-180 pages.
