Three volume set. 22 x 14 cm. xlvi 356, viii 500pp. Volume 3 is the plates volume consisting of 48 folding leaves of plates to illustrated experiments, scientific instruments, and mechanical devices described in the main text. The plates are in good condition overall, They show varying degrees of moderate foxing and one with a tape repaired closed tear. Volumes 1 and 2 are bound into older full calf, volume 3 in 1/2 leather with marble boards and a more modern spine. Prefaced with a life of the author. The second American edition , corrected and enlarged with notes and an appendix by David Brewster and edited by Robert Patterson. Chip out of tail of spine of volume 2.
