Published by Erdelyi Szepmives Ceh, Kolozsvar, 1940
Seller: Dr Jeremy Parrott, London, United Kingdom
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition Thus. Very scarce early edition of the first novel by Wass Albert. One of the few books that was published in his native Transylvania prior to his controversial wartime exploits and forced emigration to the States. Having been viewed as a pariah in his lifetime he has posthumously become one of the most celebrated authors in Hungary with dozens of his books now in print. Original tan cloth lettered and decorated in blue, red and black. Undated but c.1940 and with 'thirteenth thousand] stated on title page. The first edition of 1934 is virtually unobtainable and this is the only copy from the 1930s or 1940s that I have come across in almost 20 years of dealing in Hungarian literature. Very slight soiling but a sound and quite attractive copy.
