First edition, first printing. Publisher's original red cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Dorothy Wheeler illustrated dustwrapper. Illustrated with line drawings by Dorothy Wheeler throughout the text. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little bumping and rubbing to the spine tips, the cloth clean and bright. The contents, with two bookplates; one on the front pastedown, the other on the front endpaper, above which is a contemporary Christmas gift inscription to the same owner from her grandmother, and foxing to the closed text block edge, encroaching onto the page surface in places, are entirely complete and without loose or torn pages. Complete with the rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper that has small chips to the spine tips and fold corners. Not price-clipped (6/- net to the lower front flap). Neat gift inscription to the front endpaper. Two illustrations neatly coloured. Spotting to the page edges, encroaching onto the pages a little. In the dust wrapper with loss to the spine tips and internal small tape repairs. Some creasing and edgeworn - unclipped showing the correct price of 6-/. The correct first issue dust wrapper with a description of 'The Enchanted Wood' to the rear flap.
