No Binding. Condition: Fine. A superb vintage 7" x 9.25" portrait of the legendary jazz guitarist smoking a cigarette by Paris photographer Teddy Piaz, neatly signed and inscribed in fountain pen, Pour Bob, Django Reinhardt. In fine condition, with very slight creasing and slight silvering to the darker areas of the image. Extremely rare in this format. Accompanied by a small original 2.25 x 3 candid snapshot of the doorway of Reinhardt s club La Roulotte (marked on the reverse "Paris France, 1943, Bob Klaiss") and a letter of provenance from the current owner, noting that the signed photograph was given to my father in Paris, France where he met Django at his club, La Roulotte, during WWII in 1943. My father, Bob Klaiss, was a professional bass player from Philadelphia, PA, playing in Army bands during the war. He has since passed, but told me what a memorable experience it was to meet and hear the famous jazz guitarist perform at his club in Paris. The additional photo shows the front entrance of La Roulotte, taken by my father, showing Django s name around the arch. My father made a note at that time on the back of this photo, Paris, France 1943.
