He believed it, but after graduating college, trying to get a job during the dot com bust and then living in China for a year and a half, he didn't feel special and didn't think the world did either. That feeling persisted up until his oldest son Nathan was born. After holding Nathan for the first time, Mr. Sun understood that he was special, maybe not to the world but to Nathan (hokey but true).While holding Ryan to sleep, Mr. Sun was reminded of that feeling and was inspired to write this book.
