First Puffin edition of the third Moomin book. 135pp. Many full-page and in-text black and white illustrations by the author. The book is bound in the original card covers and is in very good condition with light shelf wear on the covers and a 5mm nick to the top of the front cover. The contents are secure and clean with age-browning around the edges of the pages. Previous owner's name to the top of the first page.

An ex-library copy, well worn and with attendant stamps, pocket to ffep, tape stains and reinforcement to bottoms of boards. Fraying to spine ends. Some stains to endpapers and tape/sticker removal scars. Stains and marks to text. Binding still solid. Jacket is clipped to top and bottom of front flap with tape reinforcement to top and bottom around spine and adjacent panels, and library sticker to top of rear panel and sticker removal scar to bottom of spine. Some other marks and scars. Hans Christian Andersen Medal sticker to front panel. Quite scarce. 1st Printing.

Book has ink inscription on FFE, staining to upper page fore edges and end-papers, stain along upper edge of rear paste-down, bands of various dark coloring on all both end-papers & both paste-downs. Dust jacket has staining along upper rear fold and along upper rear edge, wear & chipping to spine ends, corners and some edges, light color bands on inner flaps. Color cover illustration and many textual illustrations in black & white by the author, translated from the Finnish. Her third book, all of which became internationally loved. Extremely rare in dust jacket. 159 pp.

The book itself has some small previous moisture-damage on outer parts of only a small portion of outer boards which is now dry. All the pages are in good condition and doesnt have that damage. It has a very small letter on inner part of board. The dust-jacket has some small chips but is in superb condition. It has a very small tear next to the N that is very hard to see if not checked for it. The back of the jacket has some stains. It is very difficult to find this title with an excellent jacket.
