The basic problem of space as a dimension of human existence is often ignored and the space-concept is discarded as out dated or even superfluous. The space-concept, however, is particularly suited to the analysis of the human environment. Basing his argument on a theory of existential space, Professor Norberg-Schulz here provides new thinking on this question proposing the idea that architectural space can be understood as a concretization of the environmental schemata or images that form a necessary part of man's general orientation in the world.
