Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Oversized hardcover with pale green cloth over boards, black lettering across spine. Spine faded to a pale tan shade, extending less intensely about half an inch onto each cover, roughly half a shade lighter than the rest of the covers. Very faint foxing across top and bottom edges of the c…overs. Lettering remains bright and clear. No date on title page. Copyright page dated only 1954. 367 pages. First and last page toned, other pages remain bright. Front free endpaper has notes from former owners Lincoln Brower (a notable conservationist and butterfly researcher) and his first wife, Jane Van Zandt. Top edge is inscribed "To Lincoln- Christmas 1955. Janie" (from Van Zandt), "L.P.and J. VZ. Brower" written beneat. A few pencil notes from Brower on the contents of the text. No further annotations throughout text, pages otherwise clean. Binding cracked along front hinge, revealing a glimpse at the backing linen. No pages are loose, covers remain attached. We've got a wonderful bookcase or two of books from Lincoln Brower's collection listed here. Everything you know about Monarch Butterflies, you know because of Brower's work, both scientific and outreach. He was a great teacher, an important researcher, a torch-bearing conservationist, and a leading light in lepidoptery. We are extremely excited to offer his books. Note: if there is a photo beside this listing, it s a STOCK photo that ABE put there (for reasons that we cannot understand or control) and might not match this actual book. Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Book in light green boards has 1 inch sunned strip to front and back top covers, discolored spine, insect damage to about a third of front cover, tight and unmarked. Why list it? It is neatly and legibly inscribed on the flyleaf, 'To Jay from Julian With best regards and mutual… admiration' followed by a slightly ribald quatrain labeled 'A.H. (my brother)'. Way cool. 19 learned essays.
