Using the device of personal letters, the author, President of Bowdoin College, wrote this sketch to show high school students "the inner life of the college of today." It was originally published under the title "His College Life" in Scribner's Magazine for June, 1896. Boards have edge wear and light soil, pencil and ink ownership notes on front endpapers, gutter split at copyright page---no detached pages and binding is otherwise firm. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Very good condition maroon boards with bright gilt front cover lettering. The front spine has started (see photograph) but pages are all intact and in fine condition. The first free endpaper contains a vintage 1913 neatly scripted inscription but the page is glued to the inside front cover; the first free endpaper has a 3 inch closed tear from that page evidently being pulled back from the inner front board (see photograph). Otherwise, the boards are in fine condition with light rubbing at the board tips. The inner front spine hinge shows wear but still firmly attached to the spine. The author was the President of Bowdoin College. An exceedingly rare volume in any condition.
