With marginal readings together with a copious and original selection of references to parallel and illustrative passages, exhibited in a manner hitherto unattempted. Engraved half-title, 2 title pages, 2 frontispieces, illustrated with 6 maps(some folding) 7 engravings, and 1 folding chart, all bound in original green morocco elaborately decorated in gilt, raised bands with compartments gilt decorated, yellow endpapers, all edges gilt. A lovely little copy showing on very minor spots of rubbing to joints and edges, and a few ocassional spots of foxing, contemporary owner's name.

Tooled ornamentation on 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. All edges gilt. Gilt dentelles on all edges. Printed in double columns. There is no stated date of publication but an inscription on the verso of the front flyleaf is dated 1862.
