About the book >.>.> The want until now of any complete work on the subject has induced me, in the serviceable form of an Encyclopedia of needlework, to sum up the knowledge and experience which years of study and actual practice have enabled me to accumulate. Careful workers will be able by its help to instruct themselves in every branch of plain and fancy needlework therein, described. The patterns given, even the simplest, were all worked specially for the book and are accurately reproduced and clearly explained. Not to limit my readers to dull directions and theory the book has been copiously illustrated with designs. taken from the artistic productions of countries and periods famed for skill and taste in different branches of needlework. At first sight some of the designs may appear rather difficult to execute, but when the directions are accurately followed all difficulty will disappear. That I was able to make such an interesting selec tion is owing in great measure to the kindness with which certain private collections were placed. (SP).

This fabulous, olive green coloured hardback book, with its blocked black coloured titles, both on the spine and front board, is in very good condition for its age. Normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. No dust jacket. Pen and Ink name on first page, probably the original owner's name. The Encyclopedia of Needlework is published in English, French, German and Italian. Number of copies issued until now: 750,000. Published by D.M.C. Library Mulhouse from around 1886. This specific book has no published date, so I have put in 1900 as an estimate of the time this book was published. The author and editor Theresa de Dillmont (10th October 1846 - 22nd May 1890) name is printed on the bottom part of the titled page. The top edge of the papers are gilt edge. 789 pages, plus additional index and other pages. All pages intact. All pages, text and lovely illustrations are in really good, clean, readable order. The green ribbon bookmark is still in the book, but unfortunately its not attached. This wonderful book is an excellent and informative book for all individuals who love needle work and should be preserved for future generations.
