First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 319 pages; Includes a nicely preserved example of the mechanical "Plot Genie" laid in at front. Bound in publisher's decoratively embossed green cloth with title lettering in gilt to cover and spine. Snugly bound with bright clean contents. Prior owner, an aspiring comedic magician, fashioned a personal library catalog label painted in black to the base of the spine. His name stamp to the top corner of the front endpage. Laid in at front is the Plot Genie device, a highly decorative pictorial card stock slab with a die-cut opening in which appears the number generated on the attached spinning wheel. "Genie" mechanical device is in solid and very good working order, with same owner inkstamp to the blank reverse surface. Highly stylized and ritualized plot generation from the dawn of the noir period in mystery and humor. Solid bright copy complete with the Plot Genie, and scarce thus. VG.
