Fordyce published this 'Part I' on The Natural History of the Human Body after his 'Part II' Fevers and Internal Inflammations which was published in 1768. This edition constitutes the first edition of the first part, the two parts being published together for the first time in 1771.

Perhaps unsurprisingly he died of gout. This book was used as a textbook for the lectures he gave at the Royal College of Physicians.
