Elbert Green Hubbard (June 19, 1856 ż May 7, 1915) was an American writer, publisher, artist, and philosopher. His best-known work came after he founded Roycroft, an Arts and Crafts movement community in East Aurora, New York in 1895. He died aboard the torpedoed RMS Lusitania in the Atlantic Ocean 11 miles (18 km) off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland at the start of WWI. This work, compiled by his heirs at Roycroft, is a collection of "nuggets" of wisdom and inspiration from the works of hundreds of writers, politicians, poets and scholars. The quotes and sentiments expressed are timeless. The book must have deservedly remained in print for decades. Copyright 1923. Elbert Hubbard founded the Roycrofters in East Aurora, NY as a commnity of craftsment in 1895--a part of the larger "Arts and Crafts" movement of that era. Contains an index in the rear. Original publisher's dark maroon leatherette covers with silver spine and cover lettering. There is a slight bit of scuffing to the bottom edge of the spine, else this is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. ; Frontis Portrait; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 228, i-xii pages.
