This is due to the trend to packcomplete chipsets onto a single platform resulting insystems-on-chip (SOC) and even completenetworks-on-chip (NOC).Exploiting the ability to dynamically reconfigure(i.e. partially change its functionality duringrun-time) enables the implementation of systems thatdo not fit into the chip completely. The majorobstacle here is that development tools do notsupport dynamic reconfiguration conveniently. Thisbook proposes a methodology for developing andrefining reconfigurable hardware on all abstractionlevels provided by the number one system developmentlanguage SystemC.
