3pp, [1]. Single bifolium, separated into two leaves. Docket-title to verso of second leaf. Manuscript numerals to head of p.[1], gutter partially trimmed A remarkably rare example of polemical commercial lobbying literature, issued in an attempt to influence opinion in the run up to debates and divisions in the House of Commons, regarding a controversial proposal to rebuild Newgate Prison, with two-thirds of the cost, £40,000, to be paid by the county of Middlesex. The plan was ultimately dropped, primarily due to the efforts of lawyer Sir John Hawkins (179-1789), then chairman of the Middlesex quarter sessions. ESTC records copies at only four locations in the British Isles (BL, Guildhall, NLS, and Oxford), and none elsewhere. ESTC T128228. Size: Folio.
